As expected, LVMH has confirmed the appointment of the Northern Irish designer, who was already named head of menswear at Dior in mid-April, to the helm of womenswear (ready-to-wear and haute couture). The young forty-something, the first since the eponymous founder of the House to be given such a wide remit, had already made a name for himself by propelling Loewe into the club of powerful and desirable luxury Houses.
Dior came as no surprise to the fashion world when it appointed Jonathan Anderson as head of its women’s collections on Monday 2 June. But the LVMH group’s fashion house is counting on him to continue surprising fashion lovers and enthusiasts as he did previously as artistic director of Loewe, another house in the galaxy of the world’s leading luxury brand.
The near certainty among industry observers that Jonathan Anderson would replace Maria Grazia Chiuri at the helm of the women’s division was confirmed in a statement on social media. The departure of Dior’s artistic director, after nine years of service, had been widely anticipated and announced on Friday, May 30.
A first since Christian Dior
Jonathan Anderson has been entrusted with the entire Dior universe, a first since the death of the brand’s eponymous founder, Christian Dior, in 1957. This new appointment was preceded by the appointment in mid-April of the 41-year-old Northern Irish designer to Dior Homme, replacing Kim Jones.
