On Tuesday, June 3, brothers Thierry and Arnaud Gillier, owners of Zadig & Voltaire, announced that they had acquired jeweler Poiray from Jean-Paul Bize. The transaction speaks volumes about the need to spread risk by targeting one of the most dynamic segments of the jewelry market.
Thierry Gillier, founder and principal shareholder of Zadig & Voltaire, and his brother Arnaud have acquired Poiray. An independent jewelry house also present in the watchmaking world, the duo bought it from its former owner, Jean-Paul Bize and his AMS group, along with the Aurélie Bidermann jewelry brand.
The transaction, the amount of which has not been disclosed, was carried out through the Gillier holding company, Iena Investissements.
One of the few remaining independent jewelry houses
Poiray is a gem in the luxury world, in that it has never fallen into the hands of a large group such as LVMH, Richemont or Kering.
However, Poiray is indeed a Place Vendôme jeweler, with its headquarters located at number 8. A unique brand, it is the “first Place Vendôme jeweler to refuse to limit itself to precious stones.” Its use of bright colors quickly earned it the nickname “jeweler of color.”
