To promote its latest mascara, L’obscur, the Italian house has selected the young 18-year-old British model with Trisomy 21 syndrome. This resounding collaboration is a triumph on social networks.

The young woman discovered photography in 2017 and signed with Zebedee management, a London agency specialising in the recruitment of disabled or so-called atypical models.

Already recognized for her work with Nike, the young woman carries a beautiful message in favor of diversity in fashion and beauty.

Gucci, which wants to promote the shaking of the dictates of beauty and “positive body”, has met with real success after publishing a photo of her new muse on Instagram southafrica-ed.com. The publication has more than 820,000 likes and thousands of kind comments, making it quickly the most popular publication in the luxury brand’s account.

It was also a success with the fashion industry, since Vogue Italia magazine will soon publish the young woman’s photos.

If the world of haute couture is renowned for its lack of flexibility and its very “standardized” configuration, we have been observing the democratization of diversity for several years.

The number of brands choosing models who are handicapped or whose physique differs from the “normative” codes of haute-couture, such as the Winnie Harlow model with vitiligo.

However, the efforts made by certain brands to open up haute couture to physical diversity are still insufficient, according to the Zebedee management agency: “only one or two models out of 10,000 are said to be disabled”.
