The Italian fashion house has just announced the departure of Donatella Versace as creative director on April 1st. She is to be replaced by a designer unknown to the general public, Dario Vitale.
Donatella Versace has been a fashion institution for almost three decades. The former right-hand woman and muse of her brother took up the torch of the eponymous fashion house after the assassination of her brother Gianni in 1997.
Chief ambassador
At 69 (and even 70 on May 2), the ever-glamorous Donatella Versace is nevertheless becoming chief ambassador of the brand. Her role will be to support “Versace’s philanthropic and charitable activities and to defend the brand throughout the world”.
