Power and luxury combined. That’s how to sum up the new 2023 BMW XM unveiled at the international contemporary art fair Art Basel Miami Beach. Let’s take a tour of this ever more impressive car.
Unparalleled power
BMW has premiered the BMW Concept XM, considered the most powerful BMW M model ever revealed. With its hybrid drivetrain, it is designed to offer an extra quiet driving experience, in addition to the sporty performance characteristic of M models.
This BMW XM promises exceptional capabilities: lightning-fast acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h and a top speed of up to 300 km/h. A true proof of power of this car, which does not forget the ecological trend, because it is able to cut its internal combustion engine in order to emit no polluting particles in the air.
The German firm will offer the XM exclusively with a twin-turbocharged V8 plug-in hybrid engine producing 550 kW and 1,000 Nm, and up to 80 kilometers of pure electric driving.
“The BMW Concept XM embodies a completely new vision for the high-performance car segment,” says Franciscus Van Meel, CEO of BMW M. “It is a testament to BMW M’s ability to deliver on the promise of the XM. “It is a testament to BMW M’s ability to go beyond established conventions and push the boundaries to deliver the ultimate in driving pleasure to BMW M enthusiasts. The production model, which will be the very first model to be offered exclusively as a BMW M since the famous BMW M1, also demonstrates our ability to implement our strategy of progressive electrification of the brand’s models.”
The new era of luxury in the automobile
With this model, BMW intends to blaze its own trail in the luxury segment. The concept’s exterior lines are a testament to its strong character and aura. Inside the cabin, the all-new rear design embodies this spirit of renewed automotive luxury. Dubbed the “M Lounge,” the space features comfortable seating and a bright, carefully designed headliner, offering passengers a sense of serenity and well-being. The roof-mounted LED headlamp package is also reminiscent of BMW’s first luxury off-road prototype, the E34 530iX Enduro Touring from 1993.
“The design of the BMW Concept XM is a unique signature in the luxury car segment from BMW M,” says Domagoj Dukec, BMW Design Director. “This model has an exclusive identity and expressive style that is unmatched in the current BMW range.”
A thick black contour line at the shoulder of the vehicle evokes the profile of the M1, separating the upper matte gold-bronze paint and the lower sidereal gray metallic paint, while drawing the eye lower to increase the window opening. The look is completed with a set of 23-inch alloy wheels.
In addition, the new BMW Curved Display offers the perfect balance of driver-optimized layout and modern digital tools in the rear. The red accents on the steering wheel and center console, unique to M models, evoke the model’s sporty performance.
The BMW XM 2023 will enter production in late 2022 as the first electrified high-performance model from BMW M. Pricing is expected to be revealed sometime next year, but it is rumored to be around €100,000.
The year 2022 promises to be a busy one for the German automaker, as in addition to the presentation of four new models as announced last week, they will celebrate their 50th anniversary. The BMW WM 2023 is in a way the gift offered to all the faithful since fifty years.
