California-based automaker Lucid Motors has announced the launch of sales for a new rear-wheel-drive (RWD) variant of its Air Pure sedan. More affordable, the model still offers the longest range capability among all the manufacturer’s models.
Lucid Motors, the luxury electric vehicle manufacturer, recently unveiled a new variant of its flagship sedan, the Air Pure. This rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version is part of their strategy to expand their product range and boost demand in the electric vehicle (EV) market.
This announcement marks a significant milestone in the evolution of the Lucid Air lineup. Lucid Motors has come a long way since announcing its first EV prototype over seven years ago. The company’s initial dream of delivering the Air finally materialized in the fall of 2021 when the Dream model editions started rolling off its assembly lines in Arizona.
Since then, Lucid has continued to expand its range, including the Air Grand Touring, Touring, and Pure models, not to mention the upcoming Sapphire model. The Sapphire is a powerful and high-end version of the Air.
Supported by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, the company had already lowered the prices of its luxury Air sedans by up to $12,400 in August. This move was driven by its efforts to catch up with Tesla, its main competitor.
More Affordable Offering
Lucid Motors’ announcement pertains to the more affordable RWD version of the Air Pure, now available starting at $77,400. This new offering aims to make Lucid’s cutting-edge technology more accessible to consumers, although its price remains slightly higher than Tesla’s Model S, which starts at $75,000.
Despite its price point, the Air Pure RWD offers an impressive range of 410 miles on a single charge, making it one of the market’s top-performing electric vehicles in terms of range. The model can still generate 430 horsepower, accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, and regain 150 miles of range in just 12 minutes on a fast DC charging station.
“The new Lucid Air Pure RWD has it all: style and technology, range and performance, space and practicality. I’m thrilled that the most accessible Air surpasses the range of any other electric vehicle from any other brand,” said Peter Rawlinson, CEO and Chief Technology Officer of Lucid. “With a starting price of $77,400, I believe this new addition to the Lucid Air lineup is the car that so many people have been waiting for.”
