On Thursday, May 15, the Milan court ordered Valentino Bags Lab srl, a subsidiary of the Valentino fashion company that produces bags under its brand name, to be placed under judicial administration. The measure was justified by the alleged failure to control cases of worker exploitation in several Chinese factories in the production subcontracting chain.
More than 10 months after Italian subsidiaries of Armani and Dior were placed under judicial administration by local courts for poor working conditions at some of their Chinese subcontractors, it is now the turn of a Valentino supplier to be singled out.
The company, called Valentino Bags Lab srl, specializes in the production of bags and travel accessories controlled by Valentino spa, and is suspected of failing to monitor working conditions at at least two of its Chinese subcontractors.
Failure to monitor working conditions
The SME with 100 employees, with an annual production of €23 million and its industrial headquarters in the Milan suburb of Rosate, has been placed under supervision for a period of one year, including the appointment of a professional to help the company’s management clean up the subcontracting chain in the Chinese factories where the public prosecutor’s office found workers being exploited.
