The London-based fund Epiris is selling its compatriot, the London auction house, one of the oldest in the world, to the investment company Pemberton Asset Management, itself based in the English capital. The buyer, which has replaced the management trio, will face the challenge of continuing the success story of the company, which operates in around 20 countries.
Bonhams has been sold, for an undisclosed amount, by London-based private equity firm Epiris to Pemberton Asset Management, an investment company also based in the English capital. Founded in London in 1793 by Walter Bonham, a book specialist, and Thomas Dodd, an engraving dealer, it is one of the oldest auction houses in the world.
Next phase of growth
“As we look to the next phase of our growth, we are pleased to announce the acquisition of Bonhams by Pemberton Asset Management,” Hans-Kristian Hoejsgaard, Chairman of the Board of Bonhams, before adding, “The partnership with Pemberton and the new management team strengthens our market position and supports our long-term growth ambitions.”
