[LUXUS MAGAZINE] Unusual venues, vintage dresses, kitsch cakes… how weddings are reinventing themselves in 2026?

Gone are the days of rigid, cookie-cutter weddings. In 2026, celebrations of love will become true statements of self-expression for the bride and groom. Discover this year’s wedding trends according to Pinterest.

Last year, more than 7 billion wedding-related searches and more than 16.7 billion wedding ideas worldwide were recorded on Pinterest. And there’s something for every quirk. According to a report by GWI, the main motivation behind choosing an unconventional wedding is the ability to fully express one’s personality. As indicated by the dedicated study published by the social media platform, couples—particularly those in Gen Z—are rejecting traditional models to create tailor-made celebrations that reflect who they are.

Before the Big Day

Long codified—and sometimes rigid—weddings are now entering a phase of radical personalization. Certain search terms are skyrocketing, with increases reaching +305% for scripted romantic dates and +385% for couple photo ideas. These triple-digit increases signal a shift: marriage is no longer a formula to be replicated, but a space for self-expression.

This transformation begins well before the big day. Engagement is becoming a process that unfolds over time. “Romantic evenings, stolen moments at a café, and familiar places… a natural, documentary-style vibe is taking precedence over studio-style setups,” explains the report. Searches for inspiration on romantic dates, couple’s billiards poses, and marriage proposals under a weeping willow have increased by 310%, 600%, and 220%, respectively.

A bold aesthetic

The same shift is evident when it comes to venues. Gone are the traditional halls and static settings: searches for unique and immersive venues continue to attract the public. Themes inspired by speakeasies (+225%), enchanted palaces (+545%), and jazz clubs (+1,115%) reflect this desire to surprise and immerse guests in a different atmosphere—one that is more sensory, more theatrical, and more exclusive.
