The official selection as well as the members of the jury for the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival have finally been revealed. On the program for this Olympic year: 54 films, including 19 in the running for the Palme d’or.
Cinema fans, the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 14 to 25. This year, the Palme d’Or will be awarded on July 17, at the end of the awards ceremony by American director Greta Gerwig, who is responsible for one of the biggest hits of 2023, Barbie.
The Festival’s selection was announced by its general director, Thierry Frémaux and Iris Knobloch, its president, on Thursday April 11 at a press conference held in one of the UGC Normandie theaters in Paris, before being completede on Monday April 22. This year, there will be 54 films screened at Cannes, including 19 in the running for the Festival’s Palme d’or.
As usual, the selection of films is a most meticulous process. This year, it is “the fruit of the screening of 2,000 films in total, which we have all vus“, Thierry Frémauxwished to clarify. The 2024 vintage was widely expected after the huge worldwide success met by Justine Triet’s Anatomy of a Fall in 2023, winner of the Palme d’or, then rewarded internationally.
