After three days of discussions, the G7 Summit in Évian concluded with a display of Western unity amid a particularly unstable international climate. From support for Ukraine to European economic ambitions and digital regulation, France stood out by bringing the major issues of global governance back to the table.
Twenty-three years after the 2003 G8 summit, Evian-les-Bains reclaimed its place on the global diplomatic map from June 15 to 17. Under the leadership of Emmanuel Macron, the leaders of the major industrialized democracies gathered.
For three days, discussions were dominated by the war in Ukraine, international trade balances, the challenges of artificial intelligence, and global security. At the conclusion of the meeting, the French president hailed “a moment of unity” following several months of disagreements among Western partners, noting that the summit had helped reaffirm common priorities in a particularly fragmented international environment.

Ukraine at the center of concerns
The summit’s first political outcome concerns the conflict in Ukraine : G7 leaders expressed their determination to intensify pressure on Russia in order to bring about a resolution to the conflict. This common stance resulted in a renewed commitment to Kyiv and the prospect of strengthened economic measures against Moscow.
