{"id":82169,"date":"2022-04-13T16:31:21","date_gmt":"2022-04-13T14:31:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/test2023.luxus-plus.com\/?p=82169"},"modified":"2022-04-14T09:44:34","modified_gmt":"2022-04-14T07:44:34","slug":"india-the-land-of-opportunity-for-mercedes-benz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/luxus-plus.com\/en\/india-the-land-of-opportunity-for-mercedes-benz\/","title":{"rendered":"India: the land of opportunity for Mercedes-Benz"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>Carmaker, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mercedes-benz.fr\/passengercars.html?group=all&amp;subgroup=see-all&amp;view=BODYTYPE\">Mercedes-Benz<\/a> is gearing its new sales strategy toward the newly rich in South Asia, India.<!--more--><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mercedes<\/strong> believes that focusing on young Indian billionaires could boost sales of its luxury vehicles faster than mass-market vehicles, a senior company official said. &#8220;<em>The growing number of &#8220;dollar millionaires&#8221; in India includes young entrepreneurs or high-income professionals who appreciate the luxury element and technology of cars<\/em>,&#8221; said <strong>Martin Schwenk, Managing Director<\/strong> of <strong>Mercedes-Benz India<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to automotive market data provider <strong>JATO Dynamics<\/strong>, this market is all the more interesting as Mercedes is the best-selling brand in the Indian market with a <strong>40 %<\/strong> market share, compared to its competitors like <strong>Audi, Jaguar Land Rover<\/strong> and <strong>BMW<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In fact, Mercedes&#8217; sales in India have increased by more than <strong>40%<\/strong> to <strong>11,242 vehicles<\/strong> in <strong>2021<\/strong>, after reaching its lowest level of<strong> 7,893<\/strong> cars in <strong>2020<\/strong>, a year marked by the Covid-19 rankhaya.com pandemic. However, sales in 2021 remained below 2018 pre-pandemic levels, estimated at <strong>15,500<\/strong> vehicles sold in <strong>2018<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But, Mercedes recorded<strong> 80 %<\/strong> growth in high-end models costing more than 10 million rupees ($131,337), such as the <strong>GLS, S-Class<\/strong> and <strong>GLS Maybach<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>However, Mercedes and other carmakers are facing two major challenges: semiconductor shortages and logistical problems, due to the <strong>Covid-19<\/strong> pandemic, and geopolitical issues related to <strong>Russia<\/strong>&#8216;s invasion of <strong>Ukraine<\/strong>. As a result, we are seeing lead times that can exceed six months in some cases, <strong>Martin Schwenk<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We have very good sales momentum, the concerns are on the supply side. Congestion at the ports is causing really big delays and that is hampering our production,&#8221;<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>India&#8217;s lower taxes on luxury cars could benefit the segment&#8217;s growth and the car market.
