Indeed, in its report, the Bureau National Interprofessionnel du Cognac<\/strong> (BNIC<\/strong><\/a>) indicated that sales of this alcohol reached a sum of 3.6 billion euros<\/strong> (4.1 billion dollars) in 2021.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In terms of volume, 223.2 million bottles<\/strong> were shipped during the year, also up 1.6% on 2019.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n By comparison, Cognac<\/strong> sales were down to 22.3% in value terms in 2020, with the pandemic being the major cause of this decline. The pandemic favoured internet sales, a market where cheaper bottles dominate.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n “Cognac remains marked by a very strong dynamic. Demand has never been as high on our markets as it has been this year<\/em>” , declared the president of the BNIC, Christophe V\u00e9ral<\/strong>. “This growth reflects a real recovery of cognac, as well as new consumption habits”, he continued.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n As the leading export market, cognac sales in the United States rose by 11%<\/strong> in 2021, equivalent to 115 million bottles<\/strong> sold.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In its second largest market, China, sales have jumped by 56%<\/strong> with 34 million bottles<\/strong> shipped.
