According to their ranking, <strong>LVMH<\/strong> has recorded the strongest progress over the last year in terms of its environmental efforts.<strong> H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Valade<\/strong>, Director of Environmental Development at LVMH, explains, &#8220;<em>We have formally analyzed the interdependence between our activities and biodiversity in a very rigorous way. Vigeo has also been very attentive, I believe, to the application of our strategy to all of our companies<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At LVMH, each action or idea that has borne fruit must then &#8220;<em>be adopted by all the companies. Some houses, such as Louis Vuitton and Celine, are reorganizing their logistics chain to favor sea transport over air transport<\/em>,&#8221; says H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Val\u00e9rie. H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Valade gives the example.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The social and environmental rating agency highlights companies &#8220;c<em>apable of having a positive impact on the community (&#8230;) management committees must go well beyond these requirements and take into account the major social issues, including those for which companies are not legally responsible<\/em>&#8220;, says <strong>Jordi Lesaffer<\/strong>, head of controversy risk at Vigeo Eiris.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>During <strong>COP26<\/strong>, which was held in <strong>Glasgow<\/strong> last November, Vigeo Eiris took a particular interest in the Scottish distillery <strong>Glenmorangie<\/strong>, which joined LVMH in 2005 and has been operating in a circular economy since 2017. Indeed, a treatment plant built on the site recycles malted waste and treats 95% of the effluent. The latter is then used to supply the distillery&#8217;s stills with energy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The group, which is committed to <strong>reducing its carbon emissions<\/strong> from energy consumption by 50% by 2026 (compared to 2019), also plans to reduce its total greenhouse gas emissions per unit of value added by 55% by 2030 (compared to 2019). Other <strong>major projects<\/strong> have contributed to strengthening the LVMH group&#8217;s ranking. Among them, the creation of a &#8220;<em>global research center dedicated to sustainable and digital luxury&#8221; which will be located on the Saclay plateau by 2024\/2025, and &#8220;will eventually bring together 300 employees and researchers who will work on luxury and the protection of the planet.&#8221; Packaging and materials will be at the heart of the future research center. &#8220;These subjects linked to transformation open up a wide field of action.
