The Hospices de Beaune wine auction<\/strong> is a key event in the Burgundy wine world<\/strong>. It is indeed the first indicator<\/strong> of the great wines of Burgundy, some of which can reach record sales prices<\/strong>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n This year, these charity auctions raised<\/strong> no less than 11.67 million euros, more than last year, but with almost half as many lots. “It’s absolutely amazing<\/em>,” said Fran\u00e7ois Poher<\/strong>, director of the Hospices civils<\/strong>. “We have never sold so many good wines and produced so little<\/em>“, added Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Drouhin<\/strong>, president of the Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne<\/strong> (BIVB).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The highlight of the auction, the “pi\u00e8ce de charit\u00e9<\/strong>” or “pi\u00e8ce du pr\u00e9sident<\/strong>” as it is also called, was this year a barrel of Corton Renardes Grand Cru<\/strong>, sold for 800,000 euros, a record, considering that the previous year’s price was 660,000 euros. A rare vintage produced at very low volumes. This is a record sale for the event, the proceeds of which will go to Solidarit\u00e9 Femmes<\/strong>, a network of associations dedicated to victims of domestic violence, and to the Institut Curie<\/strong> for breast cancer research.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Hospices de Beaune wine auction<\/strong> was marked this year by the low volumes offered<\/strong>. Due to a harvest almost halved by the weather, only 349 pieces of red and white primeur wines were offered to buyers, compared to 630 last year.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n This year’s edition was also marked by a change of auctioneer.
