For several weeks, rumors have been circulating about a merger between Bugatti and the Croatian manufacturer Rimac Automobili. Last night the Volkswagen Group officially announced the joint venture.

 <\/p>\n

Rimac<\/strong> will now own 55% of the joint venture, leaving 45% to Volkswagen’s Porsche<\/strong> sports car unit. As a reminder, earlier this year, Porsche<\/strong> increased its stake in Rimac to 24%. An investment that had launched the rumors now confirmed.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Herbert Diess<\/strong>, CEO of the Volkswagen Group, has so far intensified his efforts to focus funds on the brands of the German group Audi<\/strong> and Porsche<\/strong>. Europe’s largest automaker has been in the race for the electric vehicle industry for some time, especially in an effort to compete with Tesla<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Bugatti<\/strong> has consistently generated positive results in recent years, said Porsche CEO Oliver Blume<\/strong>. The joint venture with Rimac<\/strong> is set up to generate “very good profitability” that is appropriate for a hypercar manufacturer, he said.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Bugatti-Rimac<\/strong> venture is expected to officially come into being in the fourth quarter, pending antimonopoly approval. Initially, the brands will produce the Rimac Nevera<\/strong> and the 100% electric Bugatti Chiron<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Mate Rimac<\/strong>, founder of the Croatian brand, said there will be fully electric Bugatti cars in the medium term. For now, he also sees a possibility for the combustion engine to remain “for a while” in hybrid vehicles.<\/p>\n

For now, the amounts of this transaction have not been revealed by the two partners.<\/p>\n
