After almost 30 years at the helm of the fashion house founded by her brother, Donatella Versace is stepping down as artistic director to become its chief ambassador. She is being replaced in the role of style director by Dario Vitale, who comes to us from Miu-Miu, the fast-growing brand of the Prada group… rumored to be a candidate for the takeover of Versace.<\/h4>\n

While Gucci<\/b> has just parted company with a little-known designer to secure the services of the \u201cstar\u201d Demna, the opposite is happening at Versace…<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Italian fashion house has just announced the departure of Donatella Versace as creative director on April 1st<\/b>. She is to be replaced by a designer unknown to the general public, Dario Vitale<\/b>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Donatella Versace has been a fashion institution for almost three decades. The former right-hand woman and muse of her brother took up the torch of the eponymous<\/b> fashion house after the assassination of her brother Gianni in 1997<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Chief ambassador<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

At 69 (and even 70 on May 2), the ever-glamorous Donatella Versace is nevertheless becoming chief ambassador of the brand<\/b>. Her role will be to support \u201cVersace’s philanthropic and charitable activities and to defend the brand throughout the world\u201d.<\/p>\n
