OnSunday January 27<\/strong>, showers finally brought some respite to the capital of California, where four fires were still ravaging the city.<\/strong> The first had started on January 7<\/strong> in the upscale Pacific Palisades district. On soils dried out by twelve months without a drop of rain, the fire thrived and spread rapidly.<\/p>\n

A heavy toll<\/h2>\n

The arrival of heavy showers was not without negative side effects, however: it also led to \u201cdebris flows\u201d and \u201cvehicles in the mud<\/strong> \u201d in Woodland Hills, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.<\/p>\n
