More than 450 employees of the famous cognac house belonging to the LVMH group went on strike to protest against a test project to relocate bottling to China. This would make it possible to avoid the surtaxes announced by Beijing on European brandies.<\/h4>\n

An unprecedented strike at Hennessy, the cognac house<\/strong> of the LVMH<\/strong> group’s wine and spirits subsidiary and<\/strong> market leader.<\/p>\n

On November 19 and 20, production was halted at Hennessy’s administrative and bottling sites<\/strong>. The first time this has happened in a dozen years.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Around 450 employees formed a picket<\/strong> line on the morning of November 19 in Cognac, in front of the merchant’s head office. Called by the CGT, FO and CFDT<\/strong> unions, they were mobilizing against an experimental project to relocate bottling to China<\/strong>. The aim is to avoid the customs duties that Beijing recently decided to increase to over 30%<\/strong> on European Brandys, in retaliation for a surtax on Chinese electric cars announced by Brussels.<\/p>\n

According to the information gathered by the unions, 1,000 liters will leave in a stainless steel container on December 15 by boat<\/strong>, explained the regional daily La Charente Libre.<\/strong><\/p>\n
