Since its inauguration in 1847, the Op\u00e9ra national de Paris<\/strong><\/b> has been the ideal setting for art, grace and elegance.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Today, the modern Op\u00e9ra Bastille,<\/strong><\/b> with its ideal acoustics, has taken over as the venue for lyrical works.<\/strong><\/b> Butballets<\/strong><\/b> are now shared between its modern stage and the more historic Palais Garnier.<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n <\/p>\n On October 1st, the neo-baroque d\u00e9cor of the Palais Garnier was the setting for an eagerly-awaited evening that was a feast for the eyes and ears: the opening gala of the Op\u00e9ra national de Paris dance season.<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Its tenth edition did not disappoint the VIPs, corporate sponsors and enthusiasts gathered for the occasion. Testifying to the importance of the Paris Opera’s contribution to France’s influence, Rachida Dati<\/strong><\/b>, the French Minister of Culture, was also present. One of the few members of the previous government to have been reappointed, she embodied the resilience <\/strong><\/b>that the official institution of dance<\/strong><\/b> has demonstrated for nearly three centuries. …<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n <\/p>\n A resilience that would not exist without the support of private enterprise.<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Paris Op\u00e9ra’s operation at an extremely high level of excellence swallows up not inconsiderable sums…<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Organized annually since 2015<\/strong><\/b> by AROP, the Association pour le Rayonnement de l’Op\u00e9ra de Paris,<\/strong><\/b> which has been bringing together its donors since 1980, the gala itself has \u201craised over a million euros<\/strong><\/b> for the Opera’s activities, thanks in particular to the exceptional support of Rolex.<\/strong><\/b> official watch of the Op\u00e9ra national de Paris, Chanel, Grand M\u00e9c\u00e8ne<\/strong><\/b> de l’Op\u00e9ra national de Paris, and the generosity of the members of the Honorary Committee, made up of individual and corporate donors\u201d, explained the Op\u00e9ra in a press release.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Paris Opera also counts among itsprivate supporters other luxury goods companies<\/strong><\/b>, such as Taittinger champagnes<\/strong><\/b> (also patron of the opening gala) and, among its benefactors, shoe manufacturer J.M. Weston (E.P.I Group)<\/strong><\/b> and jeweller Van Cleef & Arpels (Richemont Group).<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Backed by the cr\u00e8me de la cr\u00e8me, the Palais Garnier pulled out all the stops for its opening Gala, with a program mixing more and less recent creations.<\/strong><\/b> The evening also paid tribute to Hugues Gall, director of the Op\u00e9ra from 1995 to 2004<\/strong><\/b>, who passed away in 2024, and who worked hard to renew the repertoire<\/strong><\/b>, with the introduction of many shows still performed at the Palais Garnier and Op\u00e9ra Bastille.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In terms of creations, the opening gala evening included \u201cWord for Word<\/strong><\/b> \u2018 by American My’Kal Stromile, a disciple of William Forstythe<\/strong><\/b>, in costumes by Chanel<\/strong><\/b>, and \u2019Impasse\u201d by Swedish choreographer Johan Inger<\/strong><\/b>, with music by Ibrahim Maalouf and Amos Ben-Tal.<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Paris Op\u00e9ra dancers also presented two works by William Forsythe: Blake Works I<\/strong><\/b>, created for the Op\u00e9ra Ballet in 2016 to electro music by James Blake and Rearray.<\/strong><\/b> This piece, created in 2011, has entered the repertoire in a new version.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Last but not least, the traditional Ballet Parade<\/strong><\/b>, bringing together on stage \u00c9toiles, Premi\u00e8res Danseuses, Premiers Danseurs, Corps de Ballet and students from the Ecole de Danse, introduced an inclusive novelty<\/strong><\/b> this year :<\/strong><\/b> the presentation of the members of the Junior Ballet,<\/strong><\/b> which was created this year.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Since last September, this nursery of young talent has brought together 18 dancers aged 17 to 23.<\/strong><\/b> Among them are former students of the Paris Opera Ballet School<\/strong><\/b> wishing to complete their initial training, as well as talents from all over the world<\/strong><\/b>, recruited by competitive examination. 6 new dancers will complete the workforce from September 2025. The lucky ones will benefit from a two-year professionalization contract, offering them an exceptional experience, alternating \u201ctraining periods and on-stage performances alongside the Ballet\u201d.<\/strong><\/b> Under the direction of Jos\u00e9 Martinez, Director of Dance at the Op\u00e9ra national de Paris<\/strong><\/b>, the young talents will be able to \u201cdeepen their mastery of the classical and contemporary repertoire of the Op\u00e9ra national de Paris\u201d.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In their first season, they will perform Sleeping Beauty,<\/strong><\/b> the ballet by the legendary Rudolf Nureyev<\/strong><\/b>, at the Op\u00e9ra Bastille from March 8 to July 12, 2025, and on tour in France from May 2025.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Once again, the creation of this new ensemble has only been possible \u201cthanks to the commitment of corporate patrons, private foundations and major donors,<\/strong><\/b> first and foremost Chanel, Founding Patron of Junior Ballet<\/strong><\/b>\u201d, said the Paris Opera.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The desire toopen up this artistic discipline to new profiles<\/strong><\/b> and new audiences resonates withChanel’s attachment to young creation<\/strong><\/b>,\u201d emphasized Bruno Pavlovsky, President of Chanel’s Fashion activities.<\/strong><\/b> It was important for us to support the Op\u00e9ra in this project to pass on its choreographic heritage. This approach echoes the House’s ongoing commitment to the transmission of gestures and know-how.<\/strong><\/b>\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The love affair between Chanel and the Op\u00e9ra national de Paris<\/strong><\/b> is not new.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In fact, it goes back to its DNA, since the House’s creator, Gabrielle Chanel<\/strong><\/b>, was herself \u201cthe friend and patron of the greatest artists, choreographers and composers of her time<\/strong><\/b>\u201d.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In 2018, La Maison Chanel became patron of the<\/strong><\/b> Paris Opera’s opening Gala<\/strong><\/b> of the dance season, and in 2023, Grand M\u00e9c\u00e8ne de l’Op\u00e9ra national de Paris<\/strong><\/b>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cThis commitment manifests itself notably in the creation of costumes under the artistic direction of Virginie Viard<\/strong><\/b> for Serge Lifar’s Variations<\/strong><\/b> (in 2019), Victor Gsovsky’s Grand pas classique<\/strong><\/b> (2021) and more recently Nicolas Paul’s<\/strong><\/b> ballet Singularit\u00e9s plurielles<\/strong><\/b> (2023), not forgetting the tutus, bustiers and tiaras that dress the Stars during the traditional Ballet Parade\u201d explains the Maison.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The latest Haute Couture Autumn Winter 2024-2025 show,<\/strong><\/b> the last imagined by Virginie Viard<\/strong><\/b> who left the House in June, was itself presented, the same month, in the magnificent and theatrical corridors of the Op\u00e9ra Garnier.<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Palais Garnier certainly suits Chanel’s complexion…<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Proof of this came at the dinner organized after the opening Gala<\/strong><\/b> on October 1, signed by Pierre Touitou, James Henry, Sandra Mielenhausen and Nicolas Rozier-Chabert.<\/strong><\/b><\/p>\n <\/p>\n One of the 750 guests in attendance was particularly eye-catching: Charlotte Casiraghi.<\/strong><\/b> A Chanel ambassador,<\/strong><\/b> Princess Caroline’s eldest daughter did not go unnoticed, adorned in a sparkling midnight-blue gown and a pair of white gold and diamond earrings valued at 93,000 euros<\/strong><\/b>.
