Despite a \u201cmore complex\u201d economic context, the saddler continues to outperform the luxury goods market: its sales continue to post double-digit growth in all its markets, while its positions in Asia (excluding Japan) show good resilience.<\/h4>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While the list of luxury players whose recurring operating income was weighed down by the slowdown in the Chinese market continued to grow in the first half of the year, the <b><strong>world&#8217;s third-largest luxury brand<\/strong><\/b> (by market capitalization) once again demonstrated<b><strong>a certain&#8230; French exceptionalism<\/strong><\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Herm\u00e8s posted <b><strong>sales up 15%<\/strong><\/b> at constant exchange rates for the first six months of 2024.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At a time when LVMH and Kering have seen their<b><strong> recurring operating income<\/strong><\/b> fall by -8% and -42% respectively, <b><strong>Herm\u00e8s has topped its rivals<\/strong><\/b> with an increase of <b><strong>+7%<\/strong><\/b>, to 3.1 billion euros.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>Half-year net income<\/strong><\/b> climbed <b><strong>+6.<\/strong><\/b> 4% to 2.37 billion euros, despite sluggish consumption in China.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>A more difficult context<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After a <b><strong>17% rise in sales in the first quarter of 2024<\/strong><\/b>, the luxury goods group continued to gallop in the second quarter, with sales <b><strong>up 15% on a comparable basis (excluding currency effects)<\/strong><\/b>, to 3.70 billion euros. These are <b><strong>exceptional results<\/strong><\/b> for the first half of the year, given \u201ceconomic, geopolitical and monetary uncertainties around the world\u201d. At <b><strong>42%<\/strong><\/b>, the French group&#8217;s <b><strong>operating margin before non-recurring items<\/strong><\/b> remains one of <b><strong>the highest in the luxury goods sector<\/strong><\/b>, despite a slight downturn due to significant currency effects.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe solidity of our first-half results, in a <b><strong>more complex economic and geopolitical context<\/strong><\/b>, reflects the strength of the Herm\u00e8s model\u201d, enthused Axel Dumas, Herm\u00e8s&#8217; managing director. This great-grandson of founder Emile Herm\u00e8s continued, \u201cConfident in the future, <b><strong>the Group is pursuing its investments, vertical integration projects and job creation, while remaining true to its values<\/strong><\/b>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For Antoine Fraysse-Soulier, Head of Market Analysis at eToro, \u201cthese figures are all the more satisfying, given that the luxury goods sector is in<b><strong> a phase of slowdown, or even negative growth<\/strong><\/b>, and that the geopolitical context is complex.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Robust growth worldwide, holding up well in Asia<\/h2>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The tricolored group reports that \u201c<b><strong>all regions continued to enjoy remarkable momentum, with the exception of Asia<\/strong><\/b> due to a downturn in traffic in Greater China\u201d (mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao). Herm\u00e8s managed to hold up well in the first half of the year \u201cdespite<b><strong>a drop in traffic following the Chinese New<\/strong><\/b> Year in the first quarter in Greater China\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In the <b><strong>Asia-Pacific<\/strong><\/b> region <b><strong>(excluding Japan)<\/strong><\/b>, <b><strong>sales rose by +6.8%<\/strong><\/b> to 3.5 billion euros in the first half. \u201cWe remain with a very local customer base\u201d, said Axel Dumas on a conference call. \u201cWe have good figures in Greater China, thanks to Chinese customers\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This resilience can be explained as much by the <b><strong>loyalty of its customers \u201call over the world\u201d<\/strong><\/b> as by the <b><strong>numerous investments<\/strong><\/b> <b><strong>recently made<\/strong><\/b> by the group in the Asia-Pacific region, including China.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In June, the <b><strong>Lee Gardens<\/strong><\/b> store <b><strong>in Hong Kong<\/strong><\/b> reopened after expansion, following the reopening in May of the renovated <b><strong>Beijing SKP<\/strong><\/b> store <b><strong>in China<\/strong><\/b>. In April, the <b><strong>Mumbai Jio World Plaza<\/strong><\/b> store opened its doors, embodying the company&#8217;s third address in India.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As Antoine Freysse-Soulier (eToro) points out, \u201cHerm\u00e8s&#8217; strengths remain its <b><strong>artisanal manufacturing model<\/strong><\/b>, as well as its <b><strong>exclusive distribution network<\/strong><\/b> with store openings and extensions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While Asia (excluding Japan) is struggling with slowing growth (albeit contained by Herm\u00e8s), the climate in the Land of the Rising Sun is radiant.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bolstered by its local clientele, <b><strong>Japan (+22%)<\/strong><\/b> continues to enjoy strong growth. A new store was inaugurated in <b><strong>Tokyo&#8217;s Ginza district in June<\/strong><\/b>, following the opening of a store in the <b><strong>Azabudai Hills district in February<\/strong><\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to \u201ccontinued momentum in the United States\u201d, sales rose by +12<b><strong>.<\/strong><\/b> 1% to 1.33 billion euros in the <b><strong>Americas<\/strong><\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Finally, sales <b><strong>in France<\/strong><\/b> rose by<b><strong> +14.7%<\/strong><\/b> to 680 million euros.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Continued momentum driven by the leather goods segment<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Boosted by \u201c<b><strong>increased production capacity<\/strong><\/b>\u201d and \u201c<b><strong>particularly sustained demand<\/strong><\/b>\u201d, the <b><strong>Leather Goods-Saddlery<\/strong><\/b> segment turned in a remarkable performance <b><strong>(+19%)<\/strong><\/b>. Herm\u00e8s continues to expand its production capacity, with the<b><strong>opening of the Riom leather goods factory (Puy-de-D\u00f4me)<\/strong><\/b> in September 2024, as well as the <b><strong>construction of two new leather goods factories: Isle-d&#8217;Espagnac (Charente) in April and Loupes (Gironde) in May<\/strong><\/b>, scheduled to open in 2025 and 2026 respectively.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b><strong>Sales of clothing and<\/strong><\/b> accessories <b><strong>rose by 12.5%<\/strong><\/b> to 2.16 billion euros. Sales of perfumes and beauty products reached 259 million euros (+3.9%). Sales in the <b><strong>\u201cother crafts\u201d segment<\/strong><\/b> <b><strong>(jewelry and home products)<\/strong><\/b> approached the billion euro mark <b><strong>(+15.7%<\/strong><\/b>). The <b><strong>silk and textile segment<\/strong><\/b> declined by <b><strong>-1.7%<\/strong><\/b> to 436 million euros, while watchmaking fell by <b><strong>-2.<\/strong><\/b> 9% to 308 million euros.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In view of this dynamic performance, the saddler is confident about the future. <strong>In the medium term<\/strong>, the group \u201cconfirms an <strong>ambitious
