As Paris prepares to host the 2024 Olympic<\/strong><\/b> Games, a quiet but intense battle is going on in parallel: the fight against counterfeiting<\/strong><\/b>. Faced with the imminent influx of millions of visitors, the French authorities are redoubling their efforts to eradicate this illegal trade and protect the image of the world’s fashion capital.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n On April 3<\/strong><\/b>, the usually peaceful Saint-Ouen flea market<\/strong><\/b> was the scene of a major police operation.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Under the direction of Michel Lavaud<\/strong><\/b>, head of security for Seine-Saint-Denis, the police closed down 11 stores<\/strong><\/b> selling counterfeit goods and seized 63,000 items<\/strong><\/b>, including imitation Louis Vuitton bags and Nike shoes<\/strong><\/b>. Ten people were arrested.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n “We did a lot of work before the Olympic Games,”<\/em> said Delphine Sarfati-Sobreira<\/strong><\/b>, Director of UNIFAB, the Union of Manufacturers for the International Protection of Intellectual Property. “Numerous operations were carried out, with training lasting almost 18 months for operational agents, police, customs, gendarmerie, fraud prevention.”<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n “There have been major operations, like a few weeks ago, the closure of more than 10 stores in the Saint-Ouen area, which is 500 meters from the Olympic Village.<\/em> Thousands of counterfeit products have been seized, in order to clean up this area where many counterfeits were circulating”,<\/em> added the manager.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\nIncreased vigilance<\/h2>\n
