An investigation into armed robbery was opened on Friday January 26<\/strong> after a home invasion at the Paris home of Michelin-starred chef Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Pi\u00e8ge<\/strong>. According to online media Actu17, three people knocked on the door of the chef’s home in the 1st arrondissement, and broke in when the nanny opened the door. The nanny was tied up while the suspects searched the premises. They allegedly stole luxury jewelry and watches before fleeing, according to the online media.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n “The individuals attacked the nanny who was present at the Pi\u00e8ge home before leaving with their booty, the first estimate of which is around 150,000 euros,”<\/em> the public prosecutor’s office said.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n This previously more discreet phenomenon, known as home-jacking<\/strong>, is taking on alarming proportions, particularly among celebrities living in the Paris region, notably in western Paris, the Hauts-de-Seine and Yvelines. It refers to any type of burglary carried out in the presence of the occupants.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In 2022, the number of home-jacking cases recorded in France totaled 482<\/strong>, including 337 in the Paris region. For the first 11 months of 2023, 469<\/strong> cases were recorded, a figure that has remained relatively stable over the last few years. But according to data from the Pr\u00e9fecture de Police, 288<\/strong> home-jacking incidents were reported from January to November 2023 in Paris and its inner suburbs.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n “A few months ago, we hardly ever caught these kinds of cases, and now we catch almost one a week,”<\/em> sums up a police commissioner.<\/p>\n <\/p>\nPerfect targets<\/h2>\n
