The Paris Bourse rose sharply on Friday, buoyed by the exceptional performance of LVMH and encouraging US economic data. Investors reacted positively to US inflation figures, which are fuelling debate over a possible Fed rate cut as early as March. For its part, LVMH posted its best performance since 2009, propelling other luxury goods players along with it.<\/h4>\n

The Paris Bourse rose sharply, buoyed by LVMH and promising economic news from across the Atlantic. At 4:20 p.m., the leading CAC 40<\/strong> index was up a remarkable 2.37%,<\/strong> or 176.96 points, to 7,641.16 points. This performance followed a slight closing gain of 0.11%<\/strong> the previous day.<\/p>\n

Following the announcement of stronger-than-expected US growth in the fourth quarter of 2023, markets reacted well to US inflation figures. The Personal Consumption Expenditure (PCE)<\/strong> price index, closely monitored by the Federal Reserve, maintained a 2.6%<\/strong> year-on-year rise in January. Excluding food and energy, the increase came to 2.9%<\/strong>, marking a more pronounced slowdown than the 3%<\/strong> anticipated. This situation, illustrating disinflation in the US, is fuelling debate about a possible Fed rate cut as early as March.<\/p>\n

According to CPR AM’s Bastien Drut<\/strong>, “this disinflation is likely to continue over the coming months, due to the sharp slowdown in rents”.<\/em><\/p>\n

On Wall Street, the major indices hovered around equilibrium, with a 0.2%<\/strong> decline for the Nasdaq Composite, mainly attributed to the 12%<\/strong> plunge of Intel, the global semiconductor manufacturer, which presented a disappointing outlook for the first quarter.<\/p>\n
