Present for the third time at a COP, the world’s number one luxury goods group took advantage of the twenty-eighth edition of this global meeting for the environment, held in Dubai, to announce two sustainable agreements in the Middle East and Brazil.<\/h4>\n

Lvmh<\/strong> did not come empty-handed to Cop28<\/strong>, the third in which the group has taken part. To sign two new partnership agreements beneficial to the planet, it was represented by Antoine Arnault<\/strong>, the luxury leader’s Director of Image and Environment and CEO of Berluti (until the end of 2023).<\/div>\n

The first agreement, “Unity for Change<\/strong>“, concerns the region where this 28th edition of the COP is being held (Dubai): it involves a partnership setting clear objectives for reducing the environmental and carbon impact of retail sales with four of the UAE’s leading commercial real estate developers<\/strong>: the Chalhoub Group, Emaar Malls, Majid Al Futtaim and Aldar Properties.<\/strong><\/div>\n

The second agreement supports biodiversity projects in Brazil.<\/strong><\/div>\n

\u00a0Via Unity for Change, the major commercial real estate signatories are beefing up their sustainable commitments with “clear objectives” that concern both common spaces and individual retail stores.<\/div>\n

“The five of us have put a lot of heart into defining the actions of this partnership, which concern energy, eco-design, water and waste management<\/strong>, defining the duties and responsibilities of each party. This type of agreement will be pursued in other regions of the world”, explained Antoine Arnault. Lvmh had already signed a similar agreement in 2022, namely an energy reduction pact with China’s Hang Lung Properties<\/strong>, which applies to its hundred or so stores.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Dubai, the antithesis of energy sobriety<\/h2>\n

At a time when Cop28 is being held in Dubai, a hub for international shopping in a setting that is rather antithetical to ecological sobriety, and retailing is being transformed at breakneck speed in the region, the value of such an agreement in the Middle East was also hailed in the columns of WWD<\/strong> by Patrick Chalhoub, Chairman of the Chalhoub Group.<\/strong><\/div>\n
