With the launch in August of a new collection of bags made from alternative materials, the House of Stella McCartney once again asserts its position as a leader in sustainable fashion. And with good reason: for some years now, the brand has been multiplying its partnerships to create products made exclusively from sustainable materials.<\/h4>\n

The Stella McCartney<\/strong><\/a> fashion house, founded by the eponymous designer, is a master of art and materials. The brand has just introduced its Falabella and Frayme<\/strong> bags, designed from Mirum<\/strong>, an alternative to leather. These are the world’s first luxury handbags made from this vegan, plastic-free material, developed by Natural Fiber Welding (NFW).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Made from all-natural, plant-based ingredients, Mirum also pioneers its category by being both 100% recyclable<\/strong> and circular. Stella McCartney claims it is “capable of being safely returned to Mother Earth in the form of nutrients at the end of its life”.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This material is manufactured in three stages from certified organic bioneutral<\/strong> ingredients, including natural rubber, natural fibers, plant-based oil and pigments such as biochar and rust. It contains no plastic and requires no tanning process or additional water to avoid wastewater generation.<\/p>\n

Its carbon footprint is significantly lower than that of conventional options, whether of animal or synthetic origin. According to a life-cycle assessment study commissioned by NFW, Mirum generates between 0.8 and 2.1 kg of CO2 equivalent per square meter<\/strong>. In comparison, petroleum-based leather alternatives produce between 7 and 15.8 kg of CO2 equivalent<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Products made from Mirum are renowned for their suppleness and durability. They are also easy to clean and fully water-resistant.<\/p>\n
