The application must be accepted by the President of the Republic<\/strong> in person, before it can be examined by Unesco’s intergovernmental committee in 2025<\/strong>. Inclusion of Cognac’s know-how in UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage list would be a genuine recognition for the region’s entire emblematic sector.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Charente-Maritime departmental council met for its spring session, from March 20 to 24<\/strong>, and voted in favor<\/strong> of registering the region’s expertise with UNESCO.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n It pointed out that “since the seventeenth century, Cognac producers in the Charente-Maritime wine-growing region have developed skills that play a key role in enhancing the cultural and natural heritage of these regions.
