Major corporations show solidarity with flood victims in Italy. Luxury goods group LVMH<\/strong> and carmaker Stellantis<\/strong> have each donated one million euros ($1.10 million)<\/strong> to support flood relief efforts in northern Italy, the Emilia-Romagna<\/strong> region announced Monday.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Last week, six months of rain fell in just 36 hours<\/strong> in the Italian region. This caused some 20 rivers<\/strong> to burst their banks, sending water cascading through towns and submerging thousands of hectares of particularly fertile farmland. 14 people<\/strong> were killed in the floods.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Stellantis’ Maserati<\/strong> brand is based in the region, while LVMH described Italy as its “second home”<\/em> <\/strong>in a statement announcing the donation.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n “We are witnessing an extraordinary mobilization and solidarity and I thank once again all those involved”<\/em>, said Stefano Bonaccini<\/strong>, the region’s president.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The donations follow generous gestures from Kering<\/strong> (for 2 million euros), luxury car maker Ferrari<\/strong> and racing group Formula One<\/strong>. The Italian government<\/strong> will meet on Tuesday to discuss aid measures in the wake of the tragedy, which could cost the region billions of euros. Other members of the European Union<\/strong> have provided specialized pumping equipment to help move the floodwaters.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Water levels slowly receded<\/strong>, allowing residents and volunteers to continue their efforts to clean up the streets and salvage what can be saved.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n However, some 23,000 people<\/strong> were still homeless as of Monday afternoon, and more than 620 roads<\/strong> were closed in the region, according to a report by authorities almost a week after the disaster. Most of those affected have been rehoused with friends or family.
