A success made in France.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;French know-how is sought after by our customers around the world, particularly in Asia. Herm\u00e8s is a company that has developed in France on the basis of this very old know-how&#8221;<\/em>, <strong>Guillaume de Seynes<\/strong>, managing director of the Herm\u00e8s group&#8217;s upstream division and holdings, told Europe 1.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Since 2010, Herm\u00e8s&#8217; sales have increased nearly <strong>fivefold<\/strong>, reaching <strong>11.6 billion euros in 2022, including 5 billion euros in leather goods.<\/strong> And with sales up <strong>22%<\/strong> year-over-year in the <a href=\"https:\/\/luxus-plus.com\/en\/hermes-a-promising-first-quarter\/\">first quarter of 2023<\/a>, Herm\u00e8s continues to grow.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Popular leather goods<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Among the products that make the brand successful is its leather goods, which are entirely made in France. Saddlery and leather goods, the company&#8217;s core business, accounted for <a href=\"https:\/\/luxus-plus.com\/en\/hermes-made-it-big-in-2022\/\"><strong>43 percent<\/strong> of Herm\u00e8s sales in 2022.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We have thousands of artisans throughout France who make our leather goods and we remain attached to this manufacturing model&#8221;<\/em>, Guillaume de Seynes explains. <em>&#8220;This artisanal model is obviously linked to our history, to the fact that we started with saddlery, then we applied this know-how to leather goods and they are the foundation of the quality of the Herm\u00e8s object, which is still our goal.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-103371\" src=\"https:\/\/luxus-plus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/sudouest-photo-1-30621025-1600-1024x682.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Saddlery and leather goods represent an <strong>artisanal know-how<\/strong> to which Herm\u00e8s is strongly attached. And the group also trains its future craftsmen.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The way Herm\u00e8s trains this profession is completely different from all others. We wanted to be recognized by the French education system to award a saddlery-maroquin maker&#8217;s vocational training certificate and we have CFA status. Now we are going to develop our own school to train future craftsmen&#8221;<\/em>, explains Guillaume de Seynes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;For leather, we can&#8217;t create more than 250 or 300 new jobs per year because it requires a lot of training&#8221;<\/em>, said <strong>Axel Dumas<\/strong>, the group&#8217;s managing director, at the presentation of the annual results.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>New factories<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Since 2010, the brand has opened <strong>eleven new manufacturing points and increased the number of leather craftsmen to 4,700,<\/strong> to meet the growing demand of customers. Last month, Herm\u00e8s opened its new saddlery workshop in <strong>Louviers<\/strong> designed by architect <strong>Lina Ghotmeh<\/strong>, which will accommodate up to <strong>280 artisans<\/strong>. Another workshop will be inaugurated next month in the Ardennes leather goods hub, a few miles from <strong>Charleville-M\u00e9zi\u00e8res<\/strong>, scheduled to open in <strong>2027<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-103340\" src=\"https:\/\/luxus-plus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/1682844244423-819x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"819\" height=\"1024\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Herm\u00e8s also plans to open three other factories in <strong>Tournes-Cliron<\/strong> (Ardennes), <strong>Riom<\/strong> (Puy de D\u00f4me), and <strong>L&#8217;Isle-d&#8217;Espagnac<\/strong> (Charente). In <strong>2025<\/strong>, a leather goods factory will join the South-West leather goods manufacturing cluster, which includes the factories in <strong>Nontron<\/strong> (24), <strong>Montbron<\/strong> (16) and <strong>Saint-Junien<\/strong> (87). The new factory in <strong>Loupes<\/strong> (33) will make up the Gironde Herm\u00e8s hub, along with the <a href=\"https:\/\/luxus-plus.com\/en\/hermes-how-will-the-new-gironde-factory-be-eco-friendly\/\">Guyenne leather goods factory<\/a>, which will open in September 2021 and employ more than <strong>200 craftsmen.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The objective of inaugurating one workshop per year is to <strong>support the growth<\/strong> of this crucial division in terms of Herm\u00e8s&#8217; business growth and profitability.
