Like its competitors, BMW<\/strong> is accelerating its development of electric models. The German brand is one of the manufacturers that offers high-end vehicles without local emissions, ranging from small and compact cars to luxury class and mid-size models.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n At its annual conference, Oliver Zipse<\/strong>, the car company’s president, revealed more details about its plans to bring electric vehicles to market, culminating in the arrival this year of the i5 sedan.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n It’s all part of a plan to offer battery-electric vehicles “in virtually all major segments of its business”<\/em>, the company said. Indeed, the group announced its goal in 2023 to achieve 15 percent<\/strong> of deliveries with all-electric models. The goal will be 20 percent in 2024, 25 percent in 2025 and 33 percent in 2026.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n The eighth generation BMW 5 Series<\/strong> will debut in 2023. According to Oliver Zipse, the new sedan will be “more dynamic and comfortable than ever”, with a “sporty and elegant design”. It will feature the BMW 8.5 operating system<\/strong> with the BMW Curved Display, innovative digital services and, for the first time, a purely electric drive system for the BMW i5. The official launch is only a few months away and production will start in the summer<\/strong>. Starting in October<\/strong>, the i5 will go on sale in Korea, Europe and the United States.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n “The flexible powertrain architecture means that the new BMW 5 Series Sedan can be offered in all-electric and plug-in hybrid variants<\/strong>, as well as powered by highly efficient gasoline and diesel engines with 48V mild hybrid technology<\/strong>“<\/em>, the automaker says.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Noting that the all-electric i4 M50<\/strong> was the best-selling M vehicle last year, BMW said the upcoming 5 Series will be offered with an M Performance version<\/strong>, featuring a 100 percent electric<\/strong> drivetrain.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Oliver Zipse revealed that a new variant would be added to the engine selection. This is the new BMW 5 Series Touring<\/strong>. “The BMW 5 Series Touring is very popular, especially in Europe”<\/em>, he noted.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Released in spring 2024<\/strong>, it will be offered in a 100% electric version, along with the BMW i5 Sedan and BMW i5 Touring<\/strong>. These new models complete the offer of 100% electric cars and two-wheelers of the BMW group, which can be found under the brands BMW, BMW Motorrad, Mini or Rolls-Royce.<\/strong><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Finally, BMW has confirmed that Rolls-Royce and Mini will also go 100% electric by 2030<\/strong>.
