The daughter of a General Motors worker, she is making history by becoming the first woman to lead a major automotive company.<\/strong> Prior to this prestigious position, Barra worked as executive vice president in charge of global product development, purchasing and supply chain at GM.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n In 2014, Forbes ranked her the seventh most powerful woman in the world.<\/strong> Since then, she has been consistently named in this ranking. In 2017, she was the highest paid executive at the Detroit Three<\/strong> (which includes General Motors, Ford and Chrysler), with total compensation of $21.96 million<\/strong>. In August 2017, she was elected to the Disney board of directors: the 12th person elected to the board and the fourth woman.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Miuccia Prada<\/strong> is one of the most iconic designers in fashion today<\/strong>, changing the vision of fashion and femininity. Born on May 10, 1949 in Milan, she is the granddaughter of Mario Prada<\/strong>, the eponymous founder of the fashion company in 1913. Born into a Catholic family with a strict upbringing, she devoted herself to the feminist cause during her adolescence. She was also involved in the Italian Communist Party. After studying political science and theater, she finally joined the family business in 1971<\/strong>, where she was in charge of creating a shoe collection.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n It was only later, in 1978<\/strong> and with the help of her husband, that Miuccia took over the management of Prada. She took the reins of Prada’s artistic direction and placed the choice of fabrics at the heart of her concerns. The creator of the nylon backpack, she is an avant-garde designer who never stops innovating and surprising<\/strong>. In 1993, Miuccia created the Miu Miu<\/strong> brand, more provocative and less classic than Prada, and presented a first collection for men. Since 1998, Miuccia has been developing a collection for women. The designer greatly diversifies Prada’s activities, making it a true fashion empire<\/strong> with a non-conformist spirit.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Born in 1952 in Sant Pol de Mar (Barcelona), Carme Ruscalleda is a Spanish cook who is among the best in the world<\/strong>. She started her career in the family’s delicatessen business. A self-taught cook, she and her husband decided to open their restaurant in 1988, Sant Pau-Carme Ruscalleda.<\/strong> The restaurant immediately focused on quality and originality, and in 1991 she was awarded her first Michelin star<\/strong>. The third star was awarded in 2006<\/strong>. In 1992<\/strong>, she was elected to represent Catalan cuisine at the Seville exhibition.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n In 2004, Carme Ruscalleda inaugurated a second Sant Pau restaurant in the center of Tokyo, which has held 2 Michelin stars since 2007.<\/strong> She is currently the only woman in the world awarded five stars by this guide.<\/strong> In 2007, she also received the Gold Medal of Merit of Fine Arts in France, awarded by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports. She is the founder and CEO of one of the first neo-banks in the UK, Starling Bank<\/strong>, since January 2014. A computer scientist by training, she saw the potential for digital technology to revolutionize the way individuals and small businesses bank earlier than others. Anne Boden founded Starling after a distinguished 30-year career<\/strong> at some of the world’s best-known financial heavyweights, including Allied Irish Banks, Royal Bank of Scotland and ABN AMRO. She sits on the board of UK Finance and is an advisor to the Board of Trade.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n While Starling Bank employs 40% female staff<\/strong>, Anne Boden often speaks out about discrimination against women in the banking industry.<\/strong> In fact, the founder of Starling Bank has been a winner of the Best British Bank award three years in a row, in 2018, 2019 and 2020.<\/strong> Anne was awarded the MBE (Order of the British Empire) for services to financial technology in June 2018 and an honorary doctorate from Middlesex University in July 2018.
