Pernod Ricard continues to shop in super premium and niche alcohol. The world’s number two in wines and spirits has just acquired a majority stake in Vermutería de Galicia. This transaction enables the French company to add St. Petroni to its portfolio of brands. The famous vermouth brand, created in 2014, is produced in Padrón, Galicia, in northern Spain.

It draws its inspiration from nature to produce an artisanal vermouth made from albariño wine and 29 botanical extracts, which gives it a flavor unique in the world.

This addition to Pernod Ricard España’s portfolio is part of the group’s strategic plan, Transform & Accelerate, which includes active management of its brand portfolio.

By opening up to a new category of spirits, the Spanish subsidiary is demonstrating its clear commitment to continued growth in the fast-growing aperitif segment.

Guillaume Girard-Reydet, CEO of Pernod Ricard España, said: “St. Petroni opens up new perspectives for us by becoming the first vermouth in Pernod Ricard España’s portfolio, a category that will help to strengthen our presence in the aperitif segment. The association with unique local brands is an integral part of our culture. All of our teams will work hand in hand to continue to grow the brand, as we have done in the past, particularly around Ruavieja“.

Three varieties of St. Petroni, based on traditional maceration methods that sometimes date back several centuries, have joined Pernod Ricard’s extensive portfolio of brands: Vermu Rojo, Vermu Blanco and Bitter.
