The wines and spirits division of the luxury group LVMH appointed Alexei Rosin as the new managing director for the United Kingdom and Ireland on May, 15th. By taking the top job at the British market, he will lead the world’s third-largest market for premium wines and spirits.

An experienced sales manager with a professional background in the wine and spirits industry. Expertise in budgeting, luxury goods, beverage industry, sales and alcoholic beverages.”

It is in these few concise formulas that Alexei Rosin defines himself on the profile of his Linkedin page.

This British man has more than 25 years of experience in the high-end wines and spirits sector, most of which he gained at Moët Hennessy, which he joined in 1999.

Since then, he has worked in operational and strategic roles across the US and key European markets, most recently as Managing Director for Central and Eastern Europe.

He has held positions such as Director of Field Sales in the UK, Commercial Director for Europe and even Senior National Vice President of Business Units across the US.

On Friday 15 May, Alexei Rosin was upgraded to Managing Director of Moët Hennessy UK and Ireland. He is now in charge of the Moët Hennessy portfolio, responsible for a list of prestigious brands such as Dom Pérignon, Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot and Hennessy Cognac, all of which have long been successful in the UK.

In this role, he will report to Jo Thornton, President and CEO of Moët Hennessy Europe.

Alexei Rosin thus succeeds Bertrand Steip, former British director, who is now taking on a new role for the company in Paris : he was appointed president of Moët Hennessy Estates & Wines last March, a prestigious entity representing the thirteen foreign wine estates of MoëtHennessy and based in the heart of Paris.

Today, the LVMH group’s main wine & spirits distributor continues to express the importance of this market on a national and international scale, calling it the third largest market in the world for premium wines and spirits.

However, the company has recently experienced some difficulties, such as a 14% drop in sales in the first quarter of 2020 due to a slowdown in its activities as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The group has also been affected by increased competition from certain players, including the Italian group Campari, which recently expressed its intention to make major acquisitions for the future in order to maintain its progress in the ongoing consolidation of the spirits sector.

The French leader in the distribution of high-end wines and spirits is lastly facing major environmental and economic challenges following the debates on sustainable development and new consumer trends ; Moët Hennessy had thus made the decision last February to stop using herbicides in its vineyards, primarily in the Champagne region, “by the end of 2020“.
