Famous American designer Tom Ford yesterday unveiled his new Ocean Plastic Timepiece range, consisting of 1000 luxury watches made from 100% ocean-derived plastics. An initiative that has reduced the amount of plastic in the sea by more than 220 kilograms.

Called Ocean Plastic, it is the new eco-friendly watch by the designer Tom Ford.

The designer has recently committed himself to the cause of ocean pollution following the alarming figures that have come down, where no less than 15 tonnes of plastics end up in the sea every minute according to the Association the Sea Cleaners, or nearly 8 million tonnes a year.

Tom Ford has decided to design a collection especially dedicated to this cause to advocate a total halt to the production of plastic that harms the oceans all over the planet. Ocean Plastic is the designer’s first luxury and ethical watch, made entirely from recycled materials from the oceans. A model inspired by the design of the Tom Ford 002 watch released last year.

Founded in 2005, the brand decided years later to make a definitive commitment to eco-responsible fashion and watchmaking in order to find new alternatives for the future and add its stone to the edifice.

“In my opinion, ethical luxury is the greatest luxury of all.” Tom Ford said in a statement, “The Tom Ford customer is sophisticated with a heightened awareness of the problems facing our planet and our responsibility to protect it. Sustainability is a key issue in our lives right now. In particular, the amount of ocean plastic we generate is perhaps the most damaging to our environment.”

The Ocean Plastic watch was designed in the iconic country of watchmaking, Switzerland. During the manufacturing process, 25 plastic bottles from the oceans were used to design this sustainable watch. A total of 1000 watches were created for the Ocean Plastic Timepiece range and resulted in almost 222.26 kilos of plastic being lost to the oceans.

The Tom Ford Ocean Plastic watch has been available for sale since yesterday, in all Tom Ford outlets and on its website.
