The Fondation du Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) is obliged to cancel its exhibition that was to be held at the Museum of Art and History due to government health regulations. The organization will continue to broadcast live on its social networks the results of the 20th award ceremony, which will be held on November 12 at the Théâtre Léman in a restricted circle.
First in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Zurich, then in Bern, the prize-giving ceremony for the most beautiful pieces from fifty brands was to make a stopover on Monday, November 2 at the Geneva Museum of Art and History.
This year, 84 of the most beautiful watches were carefully preselected by the International Academy of the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix.
The exhibition was scheduled to run from October 31 to November 15, but due to government health regulations in force, the Museum had to exceptionally close its doors to its guests.
The Museum of Art and History of Geneva had planned everything. In order to host this annual exhibition in the spotlight, the 84 luxury watches on display had to be arranged on different design tables from the new Studio Preorder & Soldout X Xavier Dietlin collaboration to showcase each watch in its finest manufacturing details, without any protective glass.
The prize-giving ceremony will take place as planned on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at 6:30 pm (Swiss time), at the Théâtre Léman, but with the presence only of the 30 members of the jury accompanied by all the representatives of the Grand Prix prize-winning brands.
Television viewers will be able to enjoy the show live, as initially planned, on the GPHG website, on WorldTempus, on the Euronews website, on the Swiss television channel Léman Bleu, on the Foundation’s partner specialized media such as Europa Star, Hodinkee, Kommersant or the Orologio, and via social networks with the publication of the results as they come in.
Aurel Bacs, an expert in collector’s watches and auctions and co-founder of the Bacs & Russo firm, will chair this year’s Grand Prix jury. As usual, the voting process for the competition will take place via secret ballots under the supervision of a notary and will be broadcast in English on site as well as online on the various broadcast media.
This is an exceptional year for the Foundation, which has had to adapt to a completely new format after 20 years of operation. French actor Edouard Baer will be present once again to present the 18 prizes in the 14 categories during a one-and-a-half hour competition, and François-Henry Bennahmias, CEO of Audemars Piguet and winner of the 2019 edition, will be in charge of presenting the ultimate trophy, the Aiguille d’Or, to his successor.
And to make it more accessible to the competition’s players, who should have been present, the GPHG has just set up its fully public online Mediacenter again this year. The Mediacenter is already up and running and will allow the press and brands to enjoy images, interviews, press releases and other information in real time as if they were there.
