Distribution channels have undergone various changes. Growth in hypermarkets and supermarkets declined by 5.9% while online sales increased by 2.4%.

Downtown outlets show a decline in growth of -3.9%. Shopping centers, meanwhile, saw a decline in sales of 1.6%.

In the first nine months of 2019, the consumption of textiles and clothing in France fell 1.3%, after a year in 2018 already down 2.9%, according to estimates of the study.

In terms of product sales, there was a strong growth in leather goods, which grew by 6% this year. The shoe, for its part, is slightly increased from 15% in 2018 to 14% for the year 2019. Finally, the weight of clothing consumption has decreased and 10% in 40 years.

If e-commerce, which in France represents 14 or 15% of sales, remains dynamic, this dynamic is slowing down: many distributors have made promotions, perhaps a little too much, in 2018, which boosted the figure but it was not necessarily very profitable, “said Gildas Minvielle, Director of the IFM Economic Observatory. According to him, the development of click and collect “also goes in the direction of a certain slowdown in the dynamics of e-commerce”.

The territories of fashion consumption are being upset,” he says, highlighting the dynamism of the textile sports market
