The International Architecture Exhibition, named for its 17th edition “How shall we live together? “by Hashim Sarkis, will be held from May, 22nd to November, 21st of 2021 at the Giardini, Arsenale and Forte Marghera in Venice, Italy.

The name of the exhibition, based on the question posed by Hashim Sarkis, the curator of the exhibition, defined the theme of the 17th Architettura Biennale. It invites architects to imagine spaces in which we can coexist and act together, at a time when the planet is under pressure and requires concerted action. For this exhibition, the famous luxury watch brand Rolex will be the partner.

“For many years, Rolex has promoted ideals that encourage human ingenuity and the ability to achieve the highest levels of performance,” says Arnaud Boetsch, communications and image director at Rolex. “Our support for the Biennale and what it represents reflects our commitment to innovation, as exemplified in architecture by the optimisation of space and the creation of sustainable buildings.

In Venice’s Giardini, the Rolex pavilion stands out for its contrast between its solid foundations and its thin, transparent, multi-faceted structure, a reminder of the fluted bezel, a signature feature of some of the brand’s iconic models. It features a project of the Nigerian architect Mariam Kamara, the protégé of the renowned architect Sir David Adjaye in the Rolex Programme, which aims to foster the architecture of tomorrow by supporting young talent. Two models, sketches and films illustrate her project into the pavilion.

“In a city set in the desert, we were keen to create green spaces and soothing refuges, and vegetation also helps to reduce the temperature,” explains Mariam Kamara at the Rolex Programme. “They also wanted a place that would reflect local traditions” .

In response to an invitation from Hashim Sarkis, Mariam Kamara will present an installation in the Arsenale entitled “As Emerging Communities” as part of the architecture exhibition.

Rolex’s commitment to contributing to more sustainable architecture is visible in many of its buildings, designed by the world’s leading architects. For example, the highly original design of the Rolex Learning Center by Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa illustrates Rolex’s commitment and goal of contributing to a better, more sustainable world.
