The German luxury brand has just revealed five of its new pens that pay tribute to the Great Wall of China. As the edition of the fountain pen is intended to be as limited as possible, its cost is not without consequence.

In homage to the Great Wall of China, the new fountain pen from the luxurious Montblanc brand is a true work of art!

In fact, the company is said to have spent two million dollars to create it. That’s about 1.7 million euros. This would therefore partly justify the high price of the fountain pens, in addition to the details and care taken, i.e. the “tactility” of the pen, the miniaturisation, etc.

Much more than just objects: real historical landmarks!

According to the brand’s artistic director, despite their differences, these pens are “a highlight of history”.

The first of them pays special tribute to the Ming dynasty, Forbes says. Rather colourful, with an 18-carat yellow gold cap, it contains a small sculpture in the middle of the trio of sapphire-ruby-diamond gemstones.

The icing on the cake, the cone of the pen has a small music box with a “soothing and dreamlike” serenade.

The second model also pays homage to the Ming dynasty, to its painted vases in particular. A hand-engraved cap revealing a 1.8-carat brilliant diamond; it is like a “bridge between East and West”, the two calligraphy brushes being interchangeable, says the artistic director.

Designed to enhance the craftsmanship of embroidery on silk, the third has mother-of-pearl as its main decoration, and is crowned by a calligraphic inkwell covered with a sapphire crystal.

The pen’s pen is an inspiration of the Quin dynasty. It was inspired by the armour of the warriors who defended the Chinese empire.

Finally, the last one has a design in gold and purple colours. With an “overlay of 18-carat yellow gold (…) and a rich red underlay” referring to fire, happiness, luck and fortune.

Thus, the price of these various limited series is estimated at between approximately 27,400 and 2 million dollars.

Forbes also made a point of specifying that all the nibs installed on the pens are created by the brand itself.
