The Milan Fashion Week has been kicked-started by italian house Missoni, through a virtual presentation.

Of the 64 spring-summer mixed fashion shows scheduled for Fashion Week 2021, 41 chose to present their collections virtually, as was the case for Moschino and Versace. Angela Missoni opens the festivities with a postcard-like video, where models blend into the colorful decor of the italian house.

After Missoni’s opening, Fendi took over in a physical fashion show that welcomed about a hundred guests, who were distanced in conformity with the sanitary measures in place, and installed on colossal wavy sofas.

Family photos belonging to Silvia Venturini Fendi as an invitation card already set the tone. Despite the unusual conditions, Venturini Fendi chose an intimate living room setting with large windows that reveal a virtual landscape, paying tribute to the family and home, while revisiting the lockdown.

The collection presented is faithful to the atmosphere created by the decor, and both male and female models parade in soft interior materials such as linen, cotton, feathers, furs and quilts. The color palette is natural and elegant, with touches of white and sky blue.

At the end of the day, Dolce & Gabbana presents a collection entitled Sicilian Patchwork, taking the public on a journey to the island of the duo. The house’s physical catwalk shows its ambitious aesthetics, with floral, lemon, polka dots, stripes and leopard motifs, as well as materials such as denim, lace, leather or brocade. The two designers appear in the audience at the end of the show, wearing masks, to greet the public.

For his spring-summer 2021 collection, Brunello Cucinelli chose simplicity and elegance. The collection, entitled Pure Spirit, presents relaxed silhouettes, dressed in soft colors, with an alternation of textures mastered to perfection, giving a pure and harmonious result.

However, Gucci is not on the program this season, as announced by Alessandro Michele, its artistic director, in May. The Italian house has decided to reduce the number of its shows from five to two per year and to organize them outside of Fashion Weeks.

The sanitary situation forces houses to adapt and innovate, not without difficulty. Revenues from Italian fashion fell 30% in the first half of 2020, with a sharp decline in the second quarter.
