On Wednesday, November 18, 2020, Hervé Morin, current President of the Normandy Region, announced to the managers and employees of Pochet du Courval the amount of financial aid now available to the luxury bottling company. Located in the Glass Valley in Hodeng-au-Bosc (Seine-Maritime), the firm has received 1,500,000 euros in aid from the Normandy Region.

In September 2020, Pochet du Courval was already benefiting from a 697,000 euro grant from the Normandy Region to “support the 4.0 transformation of the industrial site.” In addition to this, another financial aid of 800,000 euros was added, this time as part of the France Relaunch Plan.

All of these funds will enable the financing of 10% of the company’s digitization project. Benoit Marszalek, Pochet du Courval’s industrial director, details the company’s ambition in these terms: “In 2019-2023, we want to develop 4.0 bottling. Its vocation is to collect data from all stages of the bottling process in order to better understand the factors that generate defects.” Thus, several hundred data will be recorded electronically.

To achieve this, Pochet du Courval has undertaken to invest 15 million euros in its project, spread over 4 years. In addition to the investment costs, the firm will also have to train its staff in the use of the computer tool. On this subject, the President of Normandy briefly exchanged with the employees eager to learn more about the available training courses, as well as the promotion of Made in France. According to Hélène Fricout, Human Resources Director at Pochet du Courval, the company’s project is indeed at the heart of “the logic of defending Made in France.”

Thanks to artificial intelligence, this project will also “reduce costs, waste and environmental impact”, says Benoit Marszalek. Pochet du Courval’s current ambitions will also help preserve jobs, 35% of which are in industry in Normandy.

To keep their jobs, the employees themselves will have to concentrate their efforts. According to Hélène Fricout, “We also have employee participation through the impact agreement negotiated between July and October. Each employee makes an individual effort in terms of working hours or remuneration. This makes it possible to preserve jobs.” This modulation of working hours will be based on the company’s production needs. The wage loss is estimated at 3%. “These wage measures have been agreed for two years”, says Hélène Fricout. While partial activity could be maintained until 2022, the situation should return to normal at the end of this period.

In return for these agreements, management undertakes not to lay off employees for economic reasons. However, Pochet du Courval has recorded a 30% decline in revenue for 2020, due to the health context. Finally, the firm will close its doors from December 24 to January 4. This had not happened since the 2008 subprime crisis. In view of the holiday season, Benoit Marszalek nevertheless believes that “with this closure, we are responding socially to our employees.”
