Jimmy Choo opens his fashion academy to train a new generation of designers

Jimmy Choo, the precursor of luxury footwear, today launches a new academy of higher fashion education in the middle of London, which will open next fall: the JCA. The JCA is set to become the UK’s newest university dedicated to fashion.
Located in the heart of the Mayfair district, the academy aims to train the designers of tomorrow, both creatively and entrepreneurially. The future prodigies will learn about the latest artistic trends and those that help build a fashion business that operates internationally.
“The Academy has been planned for years, so we are delighted to open its doors in September,” said Professor Jimmy Choo.
The Jimmy Choo House, acquired on July 25, 2017, by Michael Kors for 1 billion dollars, is one of the largest English ready-to-wear and luxury footwear houses. Founded in 1996 by designer Jimmy Choo, the British brand has become a reference in fashion and luxury footwear.
Unparalleled with traditional universities, the Jimmy Choo Academy (JCA) offers an innovative incubation system, where students will be trained as aspiring professional designers through a mentoring approach and benefit from a level of access to internationally recognized design leaders.
The JCA London Fashion Academy has developed a curriculum based on the experience of Professor Jimmy Choo and the versatile skills needed in today’s ultra-competitive global landscape.
“London is a global fashion hub and has produced many of the world’s most exciting and innovative designers. However, it is rare that these designers leave higher education armed with the knowledge, skills, and resources to create, launch and develop brands successfully on the international stage.”
“The Academy will help fill these gaps and truly foster the emergence of internationally-oriented design talent with a strong entrepreneurial spirit,” said Jimmy Choo.
An idea that is inspiring even at the highest levels of government as evidenced by this statement from Minister of Higher Education Michelle Donovan: “It is essential that students gain the practical skills and hands-on experience that employers and industries need, and the CDA’s groundbreaking approach can help students embark on a successful career”.
Detailed descriptions of the courses offered at the JCA London are available on the academy’s website.
