Celine unveils her new store concept, Gucci is committed to diversity, Bulgari reveals its new products at Baselworld and the other news of the day
New boutique concept for Celine
The new Celine boutique concept developed by Hedi Slimane looks like in many ways to the one he had imagined for Saint Laurent when he was its artistic director. With some differences, such as the grey basalt stone floor or the introduction of wood. This brand new facility was unveiled this Monday in New York, at the opening of a new flagship at 650 Madison Avenue.
This point of sale replaces Celine’s former address at 870 on the same avenue. The new boutique is located on a single level, in a long rectangular space of more than 450 square metres, which houses ready-to-wear and Celine accessories for men and women. Hedi Slimane called on artists James Balmforth and Jose Dávila to create specific installations in the point of sale.
Hedi Slimane, who took over the reins of the Parisian brand owned by LVMH just one year ago, is pursuing its Celine redesign program quickly, following the same path as it had set for the relaunch of Saint Laurent: resetting the counters on Instagram and other social networks of the label, metamorphosing Celine into Celine with a new logo, first collections for women and men, and now a new store concept.
Gucci is committed to diversity
Last week, the luxury brand Gucci was targeted by accusations of racism following the sale on its website of a turtleneck reminiscent of a blackface.
Following this, Dapper Dan, an influential New York designer based in Harlem, reported on social networks that he and another member of the local fashion industry were going to meet with the CEO of Gucci, a brand with which he worked in 2018.
Following this meeting, the brand announced a series of measures to include more diversity in its teams. Among them, the creation of a position of Global Director for Diversity and Inclusion, as well as scholarships through collaboration with fashion schools around the world, notably in Beirut, Dubai, Beijing, Harlem and Seoul.
Gucci also promises to employ designers from around the world to fill positions currently vacant in their offices in Rome.
The brand is also committed to training its employees “to make them aware of cultural prejudices and create a more inclusive workplace“. Declaration in which they also promise to set up exchange programmes between their international offices.
Bulgari unveils brand new model at Baselworld
Two new Lvcea Skeleton watches bring together some of Bvlgari’s most emblematic design codes. One is set on a Tubogas bracelet, with a pink gold bezel, a pink cabochon-cut precious stone and diamonds. The other Lvcea Skeleton features a white gold case set with sapphires and diamonds around the bezel.
The new Diva Finissima, for its part, combines the jeweller’s touch with the most beautiful of watchmaking complications. It is set with diamonds around the aventurine dial, adorned with a Diva’s Dream fan-shaped charm serving as a minute repeater lever, and also covered with diamond pavers.
