Since November 20, 2020, it is possible to buy online the first work of art by Balenciaga: the Sculpture Track. This sneaker declined as a design object is the first of a series out of collection that will be gradually unveiled during the year.

Made of brass and silver, the Sculpture Track sets the tone for the new Balenciaga Object line, designed under the aegis of Demna Gvasalia, artistic director of the Parisian house since 2015.

This is not the first time the brand has taken an interest in object design. In December 2019, Balenciaga presented an eco-friendly sofa at the Design Miami show, created from the brand’s old clothes by architect and designer Harry Nuriev.

Thus, while the major luxury brands most often call upon renowned plastic artists, Balenciaga has recently innovated by offering its own creations. The Sculpture Track is notably inspired by the sneaker Track.2, one of Balenciaga’s most popular sneakers, due to its ergonomic comfort and sleek design.

Perfect replica of the model, the Sculpture Track is only available in size 41. It is also available in a limited edition of about 20 pieces. Erected as a real collectible trophy, this revisited sneaker is “a cross between a bronze baby shoe souvenir and a Dadaist ready-made”, as the press kit says.

The ambiguity of the Sculpture Track is found in the design itself, combining the flexibility of the Track 2. and the rigidity of the metal with which it was designed. Two and a half kilograms of brass were indeed used to metamorphose the iconic sneaker, now available on Balenciaga.com.
