Anna Wintour, a committed woman

While many fashion houses and independent labels are involved in the fight against the coronavirus, the editor of the American Vogue magazine very recently spoke on social networks. She thus delivered her vision of this world-wide engagement, while evoking her son, doctor and “patient”. It is in this context that Anna Wintour encouraged Internet users to wear the mask in order to slow down the virus. A position that could well soften its image in the eyes of the world.

Faced with the global coronavirus pandemic, Anna Wintour wishes to set an example. She shared on the Instagram platform a photo of her wearing a mask accompanied by a text where she encourages her followers (more than twenty-six million people) to do the same.

The latter said : “When life changes, you notice things in a new way”, then added : “Isolation reminds us that we need each other”.

She also invites you to wear a mask to slow the spread of the epidemic. For all those who do not have one at home, “a simple cloth cover will suffice”.

Anna Wintour also took the opportunity to express her gratitude to the fashion philanthropists who mobilized themselves through donations or material assistance in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Furthermore, in another Instagram publication, the editor-in-chief returns to the “A Common Thread” fund that she launched with Tom Ford last month in order to financially support the young labels most affected by the pandemic in the USA. Remember that this fund was worth $ 750,000.

At the end of her video message, Anna Wintour spoke of her son, Charles Shaffer : “My son is a doctor. He is currently quite ill and isolates himself at home. But when he can, he will return to intensive care at his hospital. I am so proud of him and so grateful to all the health workers, first responders, nurses and doctors who are fighting to reduce the spread of the virus and save lives”.

In saying these words, the British editor salutes all the donations made by the fashion industry and congratulates all the medical personnel who continuously fight the coronavirus.

But it is not surprising that Anna Wintour shows once again her commitment in the current context of health crisis. Indeed, remember that in 2012 she received an award from “The Human rights campaign”, the association that fights for the rights of homosexuals in the United States. Moreover, the first tweet from the editor-in-chief who made her first steps in 2013 on the social network Twitter, was destined to express her joy about the law on gay marriage, passed on June 26 of the same year.

After welcoming in her speech the commitment of the association for the rights of homosexuals, she specified that “fashion had always warmly welcomed them at a time when discrimination was marked”. Adding that “everything she saw during her fight with the organization was more inspiring than any fashion collection.” If recently we learned of her appointment as artistic director of Condé Nast editions, today it is an engaged Anna Wintour that we discover. A facet little known to the French who will certainly soften her image of a cold and demanding woman.
