After launching a collection of haute-couture, Ferrari is now involved in another field: gastronomy. The Italian manufacturer has just opened a restaurant in Maranello, Italy, opposite the historic Ferrari headquarters, which has been closed since 2019.
Cavallino, as the restaurant is called, means “little horse” in Italian, a logical reference to the Ferrari logo. It will be under the aegis of Italian chef Massimo Bottura, who has three Michelin stars, and will serve traditional specialities of Italian gastronomy.
“Cavallino serves excellent, healthy food, where each dish tells a story. It’s a gastronomy you can’t say no to” , Massimo Bottura told to Ferrari.
“I look at the past in a critical way, not in a nostalgic way, to bring the best of the past into the future, to renew traditions, just as Ferrari does every day” , he continued.
With its rich history, it was in this restaurant that the founder of the famous car manufacturer, Enzo Ferrari, used to receive his friends, collaborators, clients and even Formula 1 stars. Cavallino was originally Ferrari’s first company kitchen. First opened to the public in 1950, it has undergone a total interior transformation over the past year and a half, directed by architect and designer India Mahdavi.
The Cavallino, far from being a simple restaurant, has played a key role in the history of Ferrari. A symbol of the deep bond between the company and the Italian region of Emilia Romagna, it has witnessed the celebrations and challenges undertaken by Scuderia Ferrari, the branch responsible for the racing of the brand’s cars.
Now the restaurant reinterprets the mythical and authentic spirit of Ferrari, inspired by its values: technology, craftsmanship, quality and performance.
From racing cars and Ferrari engines to mythical photos from the Enzo Ferrari era, Cavallino has been transformed to represent the essence of the Ferrari brand, paying tribute to the famous car manufacturer.
On the outside, the house that serves as a restaurant has been entirely covered in red paint – as has the interior – a reminder of the iconic colour of Ferrari cars. As soon as you enter the house, you can tell which restaurant you are in. A life-size prancing horse logo greets us, while the gate leading to the restaurant’s terrace has been specially designed for Ferrari, as it was also made from miniature formats of the brand’s logo.
For fans of Italian gastronomy or of the mythical car manufacturer, Ristorante Cavallino opens its doors to you for a journey into the world of Ferrari.
